Project Overview
Adelaide Day Surgery is part of the Cura Day Hospitals Group which was established in 2008 and has become the leading provider of private hospital facilities in Australia, specialising in the day procedure sector. Adelaide Day Surgery is known as one of the best day hospitals in Austrsalia, and its performance as a Healthcare Provider is regularly benchmarked against other like-minded facilities.
Adelaide Day Hospital’s original signage had been up for some time and was showing severe signs of wear and tear. With the Cura group acquiring the hospital in 2008, it was decided that all signage required updating to the Cura brand language. After a succsseful tender process, LAAD Creative was commissioned with the design, manufacture and installation of all Cura branded external signage, the project was completed over a 12 month period.

The Brief
LAAD Creative was tasked with providing new illuminated signage for the top floor of the 5 story building that ADS are a tenants of, and who also have branding rights too. The type of signage we were to use had to work within Adelaide City Council’s guidelines and stand out against a very busy part of Adelaide’s skyline. Exterior signage also included North Terrace entrance signage. We had to coordinate and ensure the safe the removal of the existing 3D lettering and lighting systems on the roof and provide electrical for the new signage.
At the time the project was started, LAAD Creative was working on the national Cura branding. We were able to use the design parameters created for the branding on the signage in the knowledge that this would then be applied on all Cura sites across Australia.
Services
The project was started in August 2017, initial meetings and site inspections were initiated and held at ADS. Roof top inspections were carried out to assess what was required to remove existing signage and lighting, and what would be required for for the installation of the new signage. Initial concepts and designs were started and supplied as in-situ visuals for review. Once all changes and variations were generated, reviewed and approved two final options were set up to supply to the council for building approval. Initial costings were based on these 2 options and supplied to Cura for review. Based on the councils preferred design option engineer calculations and development applications were generated.
The illuminated building signs consist of:
- Supply of 2 x galvanized steel mounting frames approximately 8.9mts x 1.3mts (each frame to be made in 2 sections for ease of install).
- Supply of 2 x staging frames manufactured from 50mm x 3mm aluminum angle. Each sign staging frame to be manufacture in 2 sections each to be a total size of 9mts x 1.4mts x 50mm deep.
- Supply Dark Grey ACM then rout, fold and glue fix to staging frames.
- Manufacture 2 x sets 3 dimensional fabricated letters as per Adelaide Day Surgery supplied artwork. Letters to be 90mm deep.
- Supply and fitting 10mm PVC mounting backs to suit letters.
- 2 pack spray painting sides of letters to required colour (face of letters to illuminate only).
- Supply and fitting white LED’s to PVC mounting backs to suit internal letter illumination.
- Supply of Power Supply Units to run LED’s.
- Supply and apply of translucent vinyl to letters as per supplied artwork (colours TBC).
- Fitting and wiring all letters to ACM clad staging panel ready for install.
The non illuminated building awning fascia sign consists of:
- Supply white ACM cut to size of 4.5mts x 1.4mts
- Laser cutting 1 x set of letters and logo from 10mm acrylic.
- 2 pack spray painting letters and logos to required colour.
- Supply and apply of digitally printed graphics to face of logo sections.
- Glue fixing letters and logos to ACM ready for install.
Installation included the following:
- Council permits for traffic management and required access equipment set up.
- Traffic management.
- Crane on site to lift signs into positions.
- Boom lift on site to carry out the install.
- Labour to install the 3 signs (expected to be done over 2 x nights during working week).
- Fitting of Power Supply Units to weather proof boxes to rear of building walls at roof level.
- Connection of Power Supply Units to existing 240v power feeds.
